As most of you guys know, I live in the charming city of Maastricht. Even though Maastricht is a great place to live, I always find myself escaping to the hustle and bustle of the city of Amsterdam. Back in February, I spent one of the greatest weekends of my life in Amsterdam, accompanied by my 3 best friends (Ice, Martha & Lilly). In honour of this great weekend, I decided to write this it girl’s guide to Amsterdam.
These are all places you have to see and be seen at.
MOOK (now called MOAK) is my favourite place for pancakes in Amsterdam. MOOK has two locations and I believe that the menus are slightly different in each location, the pancakes are amazing in both locations. Also ad the opportunity to try the salad and they are also delicious. Furthermore, the cafe has a very cool vibe. The owners describe the atmosphere as a layback hip hop urban jungle vibe. This place is a must visit!
Now Mr stacks also have delicious pancakes, and the menu is totally different from MOOK. While MOOK is perfect for classic American pancakes, the pancakes at Mr Stacks are a bit more frou-frou. They have delicious chocolate, match, cinnamon and many other flavoured pancakes on the menu. However, I think the best thing on their menu is the bubble teas. And if that was not enough the food looks like a work of art. Totally instagrammable.
The cafe is something else. The menu is slightly middle eastern inspired, yet I think there is something yummy for everyone. They have, scrambled eggs, avocado toast, acai bowl and the service is great but what I liked the most was the carrot cake... It was amazing! This place is perfect for breakfast and lunch.
If you watch my vlogs, you already know about this place. And if you love avocado, as I do, this is the place to be. The cafe is great for brunch and lunch. The cafe does not accept reservations and there is usually a line outside. I would recommend arriving one hour before you usually get hungry, get your name on the waiting list and go for a stroll. This is a bit inconvenient yet the food is worth it.
This restaurant is very chic and I love it. It has a very sophisticated vibe, it is not too loud but not quit. I was here for some snacks but it would be perfect for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I highly recommend it!
This is a very trendy cafe, it serves breakfast and lunch, both delicious. What I like about this place is their sweets counter and. The cafe is small yet very open. In this case, your order and pay for your food than you pick a seat, and wait for your food to arrive. This cafe like most on my list has a layback vibe however the vibe at Pluk is a more hipster vibe and as I said the sweet counter makes it perfect to just come in grab something small a continuing with your day.
This is a small chocolate shop in the centre of Amsterdam. The cafe has delightful chocolate coated fruits and a cute flowery wall to take pictures at. If you love chocolate coated fruits you should visit Pola berry.
This restaurant serves mainly seafood and it has 4 locations in the Netherlands, two are in Amsterdam. I have only been here once but I can guarantee that you will love it. The restaurant, however, is not in the heart of Amsterdam so you will need to take the tram, the train, the bus or a taxi to get there. Biking is not an option (unless you are Dutch).
This is the most controversial restaurant on my list. This places only make ramen, Proper Ramen. It is a very small restaurant with very limited seating spaces but the ramen…. The ramen is delicious. If you love ramen, here is where you have to be!
If you like to shop will love these 3 neighbourhoods, De Pijp, PC Hoofdstraat and De Negenstraatjes.
De Pijp, has countless vintages stores and boutiques and not to mention all the hip cafes and restaurant. The street at the Pijp is also not as crowded as the area around the central station. You can walk at ease in this neighbourhood. Same goes for de Negenstraatjes.
If you love high-end designers stores like Dior and Chanel, PC Hoofstraat is were you have to be. Shopping for designer items in the Netherlands is great because most of the times due to the exchange rate are a bit less expensive than in the US. Prices here already includes tax and if you are coming from outside the EU you also get you to tax back (at the airport). So that is a plus.
Now, I don't do the clubbing scene often, but when don't love to have fun and dance all night. Club Candela is the perfect place for that. It is located in Leidseplein, which is the neighbour where most night clubs and bars are located. If you are one that enjoys the nightlife, you need to be at Leidseplein.
That was it my beauties. I hope you liked this blog, and if you did feel free to share and leave a comment in the comments below.
